People Watching

I love ‘People Watching’...probably because I am nosey …much easier in the 'sunglasses' weather … and I thought I would share one ‘watching’ with you ….one which left me wondering what the story behind the actions actually was.........

He reached inside his jacket and pulled out a small plastic bag … he felt the objects contained there in for a moment before he inserted his, no longer young but strong, fingers inside to examine more closely, the contents. He withdrew a ring and then another and tried them on each of his fingers….one of them actually fitted his ring finger ..the other was placed back in the bag which still contained a broach and a delicate ladies watch. He resealed the bag and carefully returned it to its home in his jacket. He lifted his arm and looked several times at his hand, which now sported, a not too modest, ladies diamond ring…he seemed to admire what he saw and it was hard to detect whether it was a look of sadness or pride ..... or was it a look of satisfaction, as the new owner of this beautiful ring.

ARKANSAS PATTI at THE NEW SIXTY recommended me a book ….I have had it for a while and tried to read it before I had my new glasses ….not a good idea. It is the perfect book to read in instalments, as it is a collection of ‘Letters of a Woman Homesteader’ in Wyoming … dated 1909 – 1913. The letters make you smile and shed a tear …but most of all make you realize just how hard life was and yet to them, it was a good life….and there is a second book too … ‘Letters on an Elk Hunt’ written in 1914 … I also have this, ready to read by the sea.

The weather men told us that today was the last of the good weather…back to rain …rain ….and more rain for the rest of the week, so I had to take my book to the beach for a read and watch the sea roll out, leaving the rocks and stones behind that were previously hidden under the great expanse of ever moving water….and I had to capture a seagull lol.

Take Care xx

Angie,
Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving your comments. Long ones are always welcome!
It's always a pleasure to meet another cat-crazy person. They are the ones who sustain me through all the angst of growing old.
What an interesting observation of the man with the jewelry. It does make one wonder...
Over the next few days I will be reading back through your blogs. I too love family history, though my info is limited.

I have the book you mentioned--at least I think its the one I read--the homesteading lady was Elinor Pruitt--maybe?
Having lived 12 years in Wyoming and traveled about the interior west, I can well imagine how difficult and bleak life could be there in earlier times.

So glad you read that book. I don't have the other one but it is on my list. Sure makes you appreciate the now, when you flip a light switch or hop in a car to go somewhere, yet I feel like we are missing the appreciation of simple things when you read about her life.
I love to people watch also. They are walking stories wanting to be told.

I'm going to guess that the gentleman had just inherited his dearly departed mother's jewelry and being a bachelor and only son, decided that he'd try to wear her ring as a way of keeping her in his heart. That or he was a cat burglar.

Hi Angie, thanks for popping by for a visit. I was actually going to visit yours either yesterday or Wed but after checking emails and posting on my blog then visiting a few others I decided to leave it till another day. I'm supposed to be doing some sewing right now, but am trying to get round a few more blogs.
You really should have a go at 'the book' as you certainly have a way with words. The card you made below is wonderful :-)
