WOYWW ...Wk 4

I have been a really bad blogger this week as I haven't posted ... but I have bloped. I have given myself a slap on the wrist .... or should that be a good talking to ... or even a calm chat about why I haven't blogged ... being PC about it all. lol
So here we are .... Wednesday again ... and here is my work area. I actually finished a layout and this is the aftermath
Strictly speaking this is ... 'Whats on your workdesk Tuesday night'.
I had a flash of inspiration to do a pink and Heritage, LO and so I flung myself into it before the idea drained from my aging brain and I realized that I didn't normally like pink.
Do you remember that I said that I tidied when I couldn't find my mat... well ... I lied. If an idea hits me then I just ignore the mess and move further up the table. Good thing we eat most of our meals, nowadays, in front of the telly!
I wanted you all to see that I am not a tidy Scrapper ... as some of you out there believe I am. I knew I would have to tidy up a bit by Wednesday morning as I was running out of table and I wanted you to see the chaos. Sometimes its even worse, as there often is no sign of table, let alone mat!

Again I have the dilemma as to which blog I should post my LO on but I do feel I should put a Heritage LO on my FH Blog whether it is connected to WOYWW or not ... What do you think? This is a little sneak of a detail before I post the LO.
Just click on my 'Glimpsing The Past' icon at the top, on the right side of the page to see the LO.

Thanks for looking.

A big thankyou to all those who leave a comment... it means a lot.

A Dilemma ?

Now here's my dilemma .... on which blog to I post my LO?

It is the one that there were signs of, on my desk, on WOYWW and so should appear here in all its glory lol ... BUT it is a Heritage LO so should be on my 'Glimpsing the Past' Blog.

The answer became clear .... toss a coin !!!!! and the result .... this blog lost.

Here we have two peeks of the LO. The photo used is from 1915 and was taken in the USA, probably in Georgia. The journalling is a transcript of what was written on the back of the original.

Hope you drop over to see the complete LO

Take care xx

WOYWW wk3

Well this is my area on week three.
The mat is tidy and has my latest project sitting on it. I am at thinking stage and I do quite a bit of that before I finally choose the papers and commit anything to its final place. The rest of the area looks as though a bomb had hit it. There are all the bits left over from making the Birthday cards and a few bits from the last LO. I'm afraid I tend not to tidy properly until I can not use the mat because I can not find it! Sorry to the tidy folk
I STILL haven't had any inspiration for the duck but while he is sitting there he might as well be useful lol.
Talking of inspiration .... I would like to thank Julia for her WOYWW as something seems to happen to me on a Wednesday morning and my mojo kicks in. I have nearly finished the LO now and will put it up when I next post.

I was out in the garden again, with the camera, and captured these two close ups. I have no idea what this bush is but its pretty, dog rose type, flowers are less than an inch accross.

This is the flower of a Red Hot Poker ... past its best but I think it has something about it.
I'm off now so here's hoping the sun stays around for a few more days and everyones mojo is working well.

Blog Bits and Birthdays.

As promised those were my cards for the boys, not that I'm really a card maker nowadays. This is the Fathers day card DD made from an idea I had after finding the quote 'Fathers carry pictures where money used to be'.

This picture epitomised Fathers day for me, seeing my son being Eskimo kissed by one of his sons.

Our friend Katie rang this morning to say that she had seen my name on the Blog Bits on Ukscrappers. I gave out the usual cries of disbelief and then went all fingers and thumbs as I tried to get the page up ... trying to think whether I was still asleep or it was April 1st. There I was ... Shozzy ... and the link to my humble blog. I gave out a little squeal before recovering my decorum and remembering that Katie was still on the phone. Thanks UKS.

Well it was Benjamin and Jacobs first birthday on Sunday and so off we all went to visit them. We don't drive so we had to face Sunday travel They always work on the lines on Sundays and the trains at this end, had they been running, are hourly and thus so are the buses. The journey took 4 hours ...each way ..... and 8 changes in total!!!.

It was meant to be a wet ... ish day but the sun shone for us and DS cooked on the BBQ. I thought he'd burnt the sausages but I have to say they were perfect and oh so yummy.

Like most one year olds', they liked the paper more than the presents!!

And it was their first experience of cake and chocolate

It was also the first time I had met Emma's Mum and one of her brothers so this was another first. I enjoyed meeting them and I think we got on very well.

Here she is, watching those tiny fingers, just incase they pop that balloon!!

and here am I blowing raspberries to make Ben laugh ....silly Nana B
What a great day .... took hundreds of photos and I can see quite a few gems waiting to be printed and scrapped.
Sorry for blogging so many photo .... believe me ... there could have been a lot more lol

Thank You

Thank you all for the lovely comments on my last few posts ... well all my posts really. I know the idea of a blog is to record events etc ... as a sort of diary but it adds that special extra reason for doing it, when you know others read it and then bother to comment too. Its like the difference between talking to yourself and chatting to a friend, if you see what I mean.

Well here is my LO from Wednesday, as promised

The journaling reads

Julie holding Julia ... Oct 1972
DD was named after my first friend, Julie with the change of one letter
Julie and I first met when I was three and she was two and a half. We became great friends until circumstances caused her and her family to move away when she was about thirteen. We still saw each other, now and then, until she moved to Scotland in her late teens. Occasional letters turned into the once a year catch up at Xmas and then we lost touch …my fault. We did eventually find each other again and now keep in touch through emails.

I used turquoise blue on the LO as that was the colour of the going home outfit I knitted for Julia .... so convinced was I that she was going to be a boy! ... and I was not going discard all the love and hard work I had put into it. She suited it so much but I appear not to have a photo of her in it.

I also have made Ist Birthday cards for the boys and designed a Fathers day card for Steve, as its his first. As I was busy with the other cards DD actually made it up for me to save time.
Will post them after they have been given ... just incase a certain someone sees them.

Lastly, I went out in the sun and took the first of my purple pond Irises. I have a tiny pond and a very large number of Irises this year!!. It also is the first year that the yellow and purple are in bloom together

Take Care and have a good weekend. xx

WOYWW week 2

So where did that week go … inspiration wise?
Not one glimmer of anything for most of the week.
I managed to put away, AGAIN, the one I was musing over last week and got some other bits out when I had a little spark in the creative area of my brain … yes I do have a brain and sometimes it is creative lol.
I’m not sure what I’m doing with it yet so that’s why it is just sitting there. I even tried to be untidier in the hope that more inspiration would filter back into my life … still nothing even the duck hasn’t moved !!!!! and I really need to make a card too.
Well that was how I felt until I took my photo for WOYWW …….
Then my brain went into Mojo Mode ……all chores went on hold and my area got into it’s usual state of mess … nearly … and a LO started to emerge.
Its nearly finished and I will let you see it next time I blog.
Today it poured with rain but having seen other Bloggers ‘Flowers with rain drops’ photos, I was drawn to capture it myself. It was only after I had snapped some flowers that I thought that others would have probably waited until it had stopped raining before venturing out …. doh
Must go to Julia Dunnits blog to let her know I remember WOYWW.

For Posterity or Altered Art.?

I have just spent well over an hour reading an encyclopaedia.
So what, I can hear you mutter. … after all there is the Internet so why bother trawling through the written word.
Now there is a comment worth discussion … maybe some other time
This was no ordinary encyclopaedia … it was ‘Everybody’s Pocket Cyclopaedia’ 1892 and I had forgotten all about buying it, about 15 or 20 years ago at a jumble sale.
It came to light when DD was looking for things to use with Altered Art, including old, but not valuable, books.
Here lies more food for thought … what makes an object valuable? … but I digress .
I could not agree to its demise, even for the sake of LO’s and Altered Art. I’m not sure why as I haven’t looked at it for at least10 years and it’s slightly out of date (lol) but I feel there is some magic of the past, locked away between its covers that should not be lost.

Did you know that Mr W George ran the fastest mile in 1886, in London
4 Mins 12 ¾ secs …. And it was still standing in 1892?
Or that there were sports records for Trycicles!

Did you know that 75 years was a Diamond anniversary then, not 60 years? I think Queen Victoria may have changed that as she had a Diamond Jubillee at 60 years.
Or that a Butt of Beer was108 gallons and a Firkin was 9 gallons … not that many will know what a gallon is soon!
Now here’s a useful couple!!…
To make leather boots waterproof saturate them with caster oil.
To ease a cold on the chest, ring out a flannel in boiling water and sprinkle with turpentine before placing on chest.

And last but not least … Cadbury’s Cocoa was the best beverage for children … or so the advert says.

Was I right to deny Altered Art this find?

WOYWW

Well its Wednesday and as I am part of the 'Whats On Your Workdesk ? Wednesday' group instigated by Julia on 'Stamping Ground', I thought I should start as I mean to go on . I hope I've worked out what I'm supposed to do !!!!!

Here is my crafting area .... the rest is upstairs now but here is where I work. It is usually VERY untidy but I had a sort of tidy in the hope I would get inspiration. As yet it hasn't worked and I'm still at the thinking stage which could go on for days !

The project on the mat is a heritage one which I was having a muse over but I'm still not sure yet what I'm doing ... so it may go away ...again.

I can hear you say .... what about the duck????? well that is a project too . I am waiting for inspiration after Whoopidoo, alias Carmen, put the idea into my head about Altering a rubber duck.
Off to let Julia know that I've 'Dunnit' (lol)

Where did that week go?

I cannot believe that it is over a week since I blogged … not sure where the time went or what I have been doing to take up the time. Well that’s not strictly true … after much thought over whether I should spend the money, I took advantage of a half price subscription to a family history site and have been following back a branch never before explored. I’m 90% sure I’m right but I may have to order some certificates later in the hope that there may be some more evidence that I’m right. All this detective work keeps the grey cells working so that’s an extra bonus.

Bargain Fruit and Vegetables and my multi coloured trolley have also played a large part in this week as both ALDI and LIDL have had great bargains, which I couldn’t resist and having purchased them I have to use it all. Well its no bargain if half is thrown away. That means lots of fresh fruit salads … salads in general and my Vegetable Curry, which is different every time depending on the available veggies but as long as potatoes and sweet potatoes are available as the base then almost anything else goes.

On Friday I met up with friends I have not seen for over 4 years. They live a busy life back in Thornton Heath and had managed to have a long weekend where they were both free and were able to take up another friend’s invitation to visit Edinburgh. I only live about 30 miles away so we met for a long lunch and a stroll in Princes Street Gardens. Bad weather was forecast but it was a beautiful day. After we had hugged Hello, our conversation flowed as though it were only last week that we had had coffee together.
The Chinese buffet was ideal for this meeting accompanied by draught cider and lots of exchanging photos of grandchildren. It was so kind of them to treat me to all this and an ice cream in the park too. We also watched a bicentennial display being planted out, on a slope. Not an easy job as the men lay on ladders across the work to do so. The fascination was, for me, to see if they rolled off (lol).
Trust me not to have my camera! I think it all might have been to do with Darwin’s birth … must look out to see if I’m right.

I have to say thank goodness for my Fife OAP pass. Travel would have cost me about £18 but instead it was £1 … YEAH. I love being over sixty.

Sorry there are no photos this time … thanks for dropping by.
Take care. xx
