Wk 140 …WOYWW ? …I have something crying ..no… screaming for a Makeover.

Firstly I want to say …where is all the snow? All we have here is thick frost that lingers all day …Brrrrrrr ... or is it Grrrrrr. We even had sun to day (Tues) …and the frost clung to the pavements all day.

This photo is a little bit of a cheat … in fact this was taken a few days ago. This IS what’s on my desk at the moment BUT it is gradually changing.

It is a very old Ikea set of drawers circa 2001 …back then the transformation started fine and then it went wrong when I used the stencils and I was not a happy bunny …so annoyed with myself was I, that it was then relegated to ‘bottom of a cupboard’ storage for the next 10 years. …but its out in the light again …demanding a make over.

I first cleaned and lightly sanded it …and it looked a lot better …in fact I was wondering whether to leave my old paint effect exterior and just attack the drawer fronts. So would I use vintage colours, which tone with the paint ???…OR … would I go completely all grey, black and creamy tones, covering all the old paint and having it match the room?? … I mused over this …even asked DD and took her thoughts on board …and went away for a large cup of coffee.

I then returned and attacked it with paint…here is a sneak peek …

Having felt this was a success, I started on a drawer with one of my ideas for the fronts…decoupage using snips of script card stock …however … a success this was NOT…. here is a peek of the mess I made …

And so I have now removed it all and will start again in a couple of days…this time I will not let an error put me off and this is NOT going to be thrown in the bottom of a cupboard again for another 10 years…watch this space …lol

To chill out after the disaster, I have started one of Jo’s at JoZarts knitted triangular scarves …it’s a practice run … wrong yarn but when I feel the urge to start something I have to improvise lol …but it gives me the idea …if its too small I’m sure the little girl next door will love it …once I have finished it

I had an amazing number of visitors last week and I am sure I visited you all eventually plus a few more from the list...sorry I didn't get to you all …the list is so long now. Again many thanks for taking the time to leave a comment …I love reading them all.

I am not looking forwards to next week, as it’s my Cardio appointment at the hospital. My back keeps tightening so that its hard to walk/stand for more than ten or so minutes without needing to sit down ...not sure why ... so I hope its easy to find the right place. I am however really looking forward to Saturday so much, as Steve, Emma and the boys are coming over …weather and colds permitting.

Take Care xx

Hi Angie, another night owl. Sorry to read you are in so much pain ... hope something can be done to improve it and that the hospital visit isn't as bad as you are imagining. I like you set of drawers and I look forward to seeing the finished job. Right, I'm off to make myself that cuppa I promised myself and then hopefully get some sleep. Hope your week is a good one. Ouch, it seems to me that its gravity pulling the top of my body down onto my hips and lower spine, AND IT HURTS, yet funny enough sitting doesnt.............. bit confused over that one........ hope you get the drawers sorted, I had a complete disaster today, and got made to re-do it straight away, and I really like it now!!
As to the drawers too much, too little, to big, or too small or wrong colour? some times it helps to look at it like that.....

Happy WOYWW and hope you dont have to walk too far, or wait too long, xx

I love the paint effect you have managed to achieve on the drawers... sometimes you just have to keep going and it all works out in the end... maybe not what you had in your head but beautiful anyways!!
Hope you get your back sorted, I know what it is like... I can manage about 3 hours sleep before it gets so bad I get up for an hour and then try again!! Stay warm!! Annette #13

Uggh...back pain is the worst, isn't it? I had a horrible bout of sciatica a couple of years ago and I live in mortal fear of that returning. I hope you're soon feeling better!

That sounds like a great idea for the drawers. If the decoupage doesn't work...could you stamp them to get a similar look?

I have loads of Ikea drawers. all in the same, undecorated state they were when I got them. 'When' I have time (next 5 years would be good)I will get round to doing them. Love the paint effect you got and admire your determination to get them finished - I would have shoved them to the back of the cupboard again.
Good luck with the scarf, and, more importantly, the hospital appt.

Ah good for you Angie, the drawers will be a triumph..I love the collaged idea..how about ripping the edges of the pieces rather than having them all clean cut? That back tightening is awful..always comes out of the blue too, I hope you don't have far to go too...you could always present at reception and ask for wheelchair help...it's not as if you dont need it.

Hi Angie,
I can definitely empathise - I've started many a project and part way through realised it's not going to turn out as I'd planned. And also, like your scarf project, if I want to do something I just have to start it, regardless of whether I have the materials or not!
As I go along though, I'm getting the hang of what you can't do without and what you can substitute. I guess it's all part of being creative isn't it!
Hope you're feeling better soon,

yes, my box was bought YEARS ago from the old MFI and I painted it and then left it, started it again last year...not finished it yet but am determined I will this...umm year! Hope you are feeling a little better, and your visit sorts you out! I've not been myself for ages, (well, I don't 'feel' like myself! It's those aliens again!) couldn't see my doc so saw a different one, and after an hospital xray found a 'shadow' probably an infection, which is why I've been 'coffin' and splattering for months! The receptionist are the worse, couldn't you just string them up by their toes!?!! (Only kidding if your best friend is one!) Have a great crafty week, and feel better soon!

Sorry to hear your back is so bad. I hope you can soon find some relief. I know how back pain gets you down mentally too. After we we shunted hard by another car a few years ago, we both need regular treament by our chiropractor, otherwise things get really bad. I am well overdue, and my neck is causing me severe headaches - I must make the appointment. On a more cheerful note, I love the tale of those drawers, and look forward to seeing the brilliant end result. My flourishes are now attached to a card, but still need something else simple to go with them - mojo needed. Thank you for your visit and good luck with your appointments. xx Maggie #89

Hiya my friend

We are in need of a catch up me thinks...

Anyway, that set of drawers is exactly the same one that is on my desk that I covered with the pink paper. So useful for putting things in but keeping tidy round the area.
I thought the colour scheme you started on was looking great. what was wrong with the decoupage... if I could give you a tip (if you don't mind), i'd rip the edges as this not only makes the paper thinner on the edges and less bulky, but it also looks more random instead of having the straight lines overlapping... the thinner the paper the better really.

Great news about the kids coming over - would love to have a catch up so you can let me know about the progress there.

Take care and wishing you all the best with the appointment at cardio - hope you get the answers you want and none that you don't.

with love and hugs
